Nysa Vineyard sits above Archery Summit and adjoins Domain Drouhin on the east in Dundee Oregon. First planted in 1990 we have provided pinot Noir to Ken Wright, Antica Terra, Scott Paul, Torii Mor, Bergstrom, Panther Creek, Bethel Heights, and Chehalem. Because our production of Nysa is small (only two acres of the 25 planted) we are able to offer only properly cellared wines that begin to express the secondary, non-fruit, characteristics of the noble pinot noir grape, our current release is the 2008 vintage. The integration of fruit in perfect balance with forest floor, mushroom, game, and spicy non-fruit secondary flavors is what motivated our love for pinot noir grown in cool climates. Finesse, elegance and complexity are obtained in the vineyard, but only 6-7 years in the bottle allow these features to fully express in the glass.

2008 Nysa Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750 ml.

Growing Season
The growing season began slowly with a cooler than normal spring for the months of March and April. Buds began to open around April 28th, giving the growing season a bit of a delayed start. Temperatures picked up considerably in May and the vines accelerated shoot growth, but bloom was still slightly later than normal. The favorable conditions surrounding bloom near the end of June continued well into August. Veraison became apparent in mid-August, followed by gorgeous ripening conditions in September. Harvest began the last week of September and continued into mid-October, allowing the fruit to fully ripen and bask in what could be called a textbook Indian summer for Oregon.

The Wine
2008, has a nose of blueberry mixed with a hint of orange peel. This deep rich full-bodied wine shows greater dark fruit components than the brighter more feminine 2007. The finish begins with plum fruit flavors and a secondary citrus complex supported by moderate acidity to age 7 more years. Best served with filet.

2007 Nysa Vineyard Pinot Noir, 750 ml.

Growing Season
Bud break occurred during the fourth week of March, and bloom during the second week of June, a bit later than normal. A cooler year than 2006 with harvest rainfall that created challenges for many growers not use to these conditions; skilled vineyard management with keeping the fruit zone open to air flow avoided rot in Nysa. The first lot of Nysa pinot was picked for Josh Bergstrom in the fourth week of October, followed by Ken Wright’s portion of the Vineyard. Our block of Nysa “old vines” was picked on Halloween.

The Wine
The 2007, has a nose of red raspberry mixed with dried violets. The lush tannins produce a silky smooth medium bodied wine. The finish begins with the predominant raspberry flavor leading into an elegant complex of flowers and spice framed by a balanced acidity to age 8 more years. Best served with salmon or lamb. This is a classic cool weather pinot from Nysa with amazing finesse.
